Chia Tai Urges People to Celebrate Loy Krathong in Eco-Friendly Ways By Using Biodegradable Plants to Make Krathongs

Bangkok, 17 November 2021 – To celebrate this year’s Loy Krathong Festival, Chia Tai Company Limited, Thailand's leading innovative agricultural company, presents another innovative idea of how to create eco-friendly krathongs out of biodegradable materials found in almost every household, namely fruits and vegetables. These materials are not only colorful, but also ecologically sustainable.

Krathongs can be made from the carved rinds of Morrakot Melons and Sonya Plus Watermelons to ensure that they do not contaminate the environment. Then, you can embellish them with the flesh of fruits and vegetables, such as cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, Chinese convolvulus, and so on. Furthermore, instead of using silk pins or staples to assemble the materials, you may use the stems of holy basils or Thai basils, which is obviously an eco-friendlier option and harmless to fish.

However, to avoid creating excessive number of krathongs which could potentially affect the environment, we would like to urge you to limit the number of krathongs to be floated in the water. In addition, please be reminded to wear facemasks and maintain social distancing so that everyone can be safe from COVID-19. Together, we can preserve our valuable tradition, while saving the environment in accordance with Chia Tai’s commitment to fostering sustainable development.
